Memories of How We've Helped Our Patients
A Lifetime of Headaches
Dr. Loren Stoner Remembers?
"Marie had been on strong medication for daily headaches for more than 16 years. She had trouble feeling focused and awake during the day. She had feelings of fatigue that made her cut her work week short. Several of her friends at the salon where she worked were my patients and, after listening to her complain about the headaches and taking medication, they referred her to me for evaluation.
"My physical examination found very tight muscles and restricted motion in her neck and upper back. Her X-rays showed a neck that was straightened where it should have been curved and curved where it should have been straight. We began care after she was shown the cause of her headaches.
"After visits three times per week that gradually reduced to monthly adjustments over a period of three to four months, she had stopped taking her medications, had no headaches and had energy to spare for her work and her personal life. She became a wellness patient who got her adjustments to maintain her wellness and never suffered another debilitating headache again in more than eight years of care."
Saving The Life of a Baby
Dr. Robert Staeheli Remembers?
"Chiropractic saves lives. I was home for lunch one day when the neighbor girl came to my door screaming that her infant sister was not breathing. I ran to their house for find an eight-month-old girl who pulled a large potted plant onto her face and blocked her nasal and oral passages with mud. Standard CPR attempts to clear the airways were ineffective until I 'adjusted and stimulated' the upper thoracic paraspinal sympathetic nerve centers which cause the airways to open and the obstruction was cleared. Paramedics arrived within minutes to find the baby appearing normal."
Coping With Crushing Headaches
Rebecca Stoner Remembers?
"A patient who had been in a crash a month previously complained about a debilitating headache. She was referred to me for a physical therapy evaluation and treatment, if indicated. The referring doctor asked that I do a very minimal evaluation and to do a craniosacral therapy session that first visit because her headaches were so severe. She was unable to think with that level of pain but her life had to go on because she was a single parent, a student, and drove two other family members to and from work each day. The thought of driving off a bridge to end the pain had crossed her mind.
"She lived in a very noisy and crowded house in a marginal neighborhood and there was no good place to set up my table. We opted for the front porch and used blankets for warmth and a bench for me to sit on. Some of the neighbor kids were curious and watched us from the sidewalk as the sun went down. The session took about an hour and she responded very well.
"She sat up on the edge of the table, got her bearings and then realized that her headache was gone. She stood up, threw her arms around me, and told me I was her hero.
"More treatment was needed because her headaches came back in a few days, but never as severely as they had been the first month."
